This 48x40 inch oil 0n canvas was of a trip back form Santa Fe. I was just coming out of Flagstaff on I-17 heading south. As I came over this one hill, the valley below opened up to this view, so I picked my camera up and took one shot and new, "Here's my next painting". (SOLD)

When living in San Luis Obispo, I met this guy who became a good friend and come to find out
a fantastic fisherman... So for two years, practically every weekend we went fishing, his requirement for taking me out on his bass boat was, I did not smoke or drink hard liquor, never had, don't intend to start I told him... With that, my introduction to lake fishing was a magical experence for both my skill and my minds eye. This is one of many viwes in just drifting in silence. Oil on canvas, 32"x28"

Taking a road to somewhere, knowing that soon it was going to rain I pulled of to just stop and look at the light on the road I put my window down just in time to see, hear, and feel the rumblings of the train and the distant thunder. Oil on canvas, 40"x20"

Just traveling thru on my way to see a friend. After reaching the end of conversation and wanting to get back out on the road, I turned to look back and thought, here is my next painting, one photo later and weeks of painting, I feel I captured the mood I was looking for. The thunderhead behind this train made a wonderful backdrop for this painting.. I played with the coloring in this giving it a mood of faraway feelings of leaving and going too another place.

I painted this on a new canvas that I had not worked on before, it has a very smooth surface and was not sure of it taking the oils like I wanted and needed... When I started at the top, developing the shad in the sky I knew I made the right decision in using this canvas.. "10 MORE MILES"

Here is a painting that I had for a year and just last week pulled it out of my storage room where I keep my paintings when there is no more room on the walls. Will I took a look at it with new eyes after a year and put it up on my easel and made some big changes to it and found I did the right thing..... Funny how your never really through painting a painting, yes I know when to just stop and walkaway but, if its calling to me, it's usually right. This is a 30"X24" oil on canvas. (SOLD)

I was in my friends duffy in the harbor in Newport at sunset and took this shot. The sun had already set so the fun zone was in deep shadows. The sky is from an earlier shot in the day so I put both photos together to make this dramatic contrast of color and mood. Size is 50"X40"

Here is another for the Laguna show. This is coast hwy coming out of Laguna beach. A drive I do many times rather then take the freeways. The painting was fun to do and to see that I got the feeling moving down this road and of the space in front of us. The size is 50"X40"

The beginning of The Wave" Painting.

Yes! this is the beginning of the painting that one can see from my little 6"x6" blog study. After prepping the canvas I develop the color for the sky and apply this to the background giving me a sense of what the clouds will be up against, then the fun begins.... I'll be back later with more.

This photo was sent to me of just the sky, it was not very clear so I sat and looked at it and thought, what can I do to make it into a painting... After weeks of thinking I came up with this from photos I too have taken of feilds that crisscross American heartlands and the small carnivals that travel the towns bringing there magic.

Here is another of my favorite black & whites. In a lot of the B&W paintings there is a hint of color, for me it is having fun on just how to add an element of shade someplace. The size was 50X40 and yes it's sold.

To work in black & white is much more difficult then color for you can razzle-dazzle the eye with color but, B&W your ether on the mark or your starting over. I feel I nailed this one after re-painting how the snow laid on the mountain. the size is 32X36 price $2,800

"GROUND PATTERNS"

This is an ongoing series of black & whites that I have been painting for the last nine years. I don't know when it strikes me to paint one but I will be posting them.
The two new paintings that will be coming up on my blog I have just completed, one is a spin from a large canvas. I love painting them for they are a challenge. I make my own black colors giving them the depth needed to achieve the tone and mood of a black & white.
